Pat Light is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins during the 2010s. He also enjoyed a successful college career at Monmouth University, being cited as one of Baseball America’s Top 100 Draft Prospects and chosen as an NECBL All-Star. Whilst playing for his high school team in New Jersey, he set the best season pitching record in the history of the Shore Conference. Today, he is the popular host of the Sorry, We’re Closed podcast and blog that keeps up-to-date with all the latest goings on in MLB.
Light was born in New Jersey in 1991. After his record-breaking time at high school, he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 2009 MLB Draft but elected to attend college instead, going to Monmouth University in NJ and making 39 appearances in his three seasons there. He was selected during the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the legendary Boston Red Sox and was sent to play for their affiliated team, the Lowell Spinners. He then perfected his game with the Greenville Drive, GCL Red Sox, Salem Red Sox, Portland Sea Dogs, Pawtucket Red Sox, and finally made his Boston Red Sox debut in April 2016, four years after being signed. He didn’t play for them for long, but while he did, he managed to strike out Mike Trout, widely recognised as one of the greatest batters in the history of baseball, and one of the most highly paid athletes in American history.
From the Red Sox, Light went back to Pawtucket and was then picked up by the Minnesota Twins who had tried to sign him out of high school. After subsequent spells with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners, he hung up his glove and entered the world of punditry.
