Londoner Paul Konchesky started his football career playing for local youth teams at West Ham and Charlton Athletic. He joined the Addicks as their youngest ever player at only 16 in 1997 and went on to make 149 appearances for them. After time on loan at Tottenham Hotspur Konchesky made the permanent move to West Ham, the club he has supported since childhood.
The defender was a key part of the team that pushed West Ham up to 9th place in the Premier League and get to the FA Cup Final in 2006.
After 70 League and Cup appearances for West Ham Konchesky moved to Fulham for a fee of over £3m. His first goal for the club – against old team West Ham – was voted Match of The Day’s Goal of the Month and in the running for their Goal of the Season. He made an influential appearance in the Europa League Final and played for Fulham 97 times. After stints with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest Konchesky made the move to Leicester City and became a key figure in helping the club survive relegation in 2015 under manager Claudio Ranieri. After leaving Leicester Konchesky briefly played for Gillingham, Billericay and East Thurrock before announcing his retirement from the game.
Konchesky’s international career included playing in two England youth teams and two appearances for the first team against Australia and Argentina. Now a family man Konchesky acts as a patron for a children’s cancer charity and has opened a traditional pie and mash café in Essex!
