Philipp Horn is a biathlete from Germany who represented his country at the Biathlon World Championships 2020, winning a well-earnt bronze medal in the 4 x7.5km relay.
Horn’s dreams of becoming a cross-country skier manifested at just four years old, following in the footsteps of his older sister. He joined the club SV Eintracht Frankenhain, and learnt his first steps in the challenging yet rewarding sport. By the age of 11, Horn had already tried biathlon and learned to shoot.
In 2014 he joined the Bundeswehr sports promotion group, training under the influence of national coach Mark Kirchner and with his huge role models Erik Lesser and Arnd Peiffer. In the 2016 season, Horn qualified as the youngest athlete for the IBU Cup team, and shortly after took his first podium after finishing second place in the pursuit at the IBU Cup on the Arber.
2018 welcomed more success and Horn won an individual bronze at the European Championship in Ridnaun. He then went from strength to strength that season and at Pokljuka, he made his World Cup debut, finishing 7th in the mixed relay. After the first trimester, Horn returned to the IBU Cup and won one season and three second places. This season was unquestionably his best yet and at the European Championship in Minsk, he swiped a silver medal in the mixed relay.
