Reina Satake stamped her name into the history books when she clinched the women’s team title at the Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in 2019. The victory was the host Japan’s first-ever women’s team gold medal at a Trampoline Gymnastics World Championship, with Satake and her teammates delighting the home crowd with golden memories ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
Satake was born in Ishikawa, Japan, and began gymnastic trampolining when she was still at primary school. After joining Japan’s national team, she made her debut at the 2014 World Cup in Minsk, Belarus, finishing in 5th place overall amongst some of the best competitors in the world. A year later she bagged a bronze medal in the women’s synchro event at the 2015 World Cup in Loule, Portugal, and returned two years later to take gold in the same event.
The talented trampoline gymnast has now represented her country at international level for over five years, regularly finishing in the top 10 in individual, synchro and team events. Her biggest achievement to date is her gold medal at the 2019 World Championships, where the Japanese team of Satake, Doihata Chisato and Mori Hakaru stormed to victory after scoring 165.225 points ahead of Great Britain. Satake and the Japanese team will be hoping to repeat their success and make history once again on home soil at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
