Robert Bernard Fowler was born on April 9, 1975, in Toxteth, Liverpool, England. Despite growing up an Everton supporter, he began his youth career at Liverpool FC in 1984, turning professional on his 17th birthday in 1992. His debut for the Liverpool first team came in 1993, where he quickly made an impact by scoring on his debut against Fulham and famously netting five goals against the same opponent a fortnight later. The 1993-94 season saw him score 18 goals across all competitions, establishing himself as a significant talent. Fowler became a constant fixture in the Liverpool side during the 1994-95 season, playing in all 57 competitive matches and securing a League Cup winner’s medal. A notable achievement during this period was scoring the Premier League’s fastest hat-trick at the time against Arsenal in just four minutes and 33 seconds. His consistent performance earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award two years consecutively, in 1995 and 1996, a rare feat. He maintained this high level of performance by scoring over 30 goals for three consecutive seasons leading up to 1997.
Fowler’s career progression at Liverpool was marked by considerable success, earning him the nickname ‘God’ from the Anfield faithful. He played a crucial role in Liverpool’s unique treble season in 2000-01, where the club lifted the FA Cup, UEFA Cup, and League Cup.
