Professional skateboarder Rune Glifberg, also known as The Danish Destroyer, has won 12 medals at the X Games and has been professional for nearly 30 years.
Glifberg became a skateboarder by chance, after a friend bought him a skateboard as a gift when he was just 11 years old. He entered his first professional competition when he was still a teenager, and turned pro just two years later. He moved from his native Denmark to California to pursue the flourishing skating scene there, and quickly grew his reputation as a promising newcomer. With a Flip Skateboard signing and a sponsorship deal from the shoe company etnies, Glifberg established himself as one to watch, entering numerous competitions such as the Slam City Jam, Scandinavian Open, Snickers Bowl Games, Gravity Games and the Vans Pro-Tec Pool Party. He is also one of only three skateboarders to have competed at every X Games, which was established in 1995 and continues to run today. He has won 12 X Games medals including golds in 2008 and 2009 and silvers in 1997 and 2013, showcasing his impressive longevity within the sport and his consistency as a skater. Outside of competing, he has also designed his own lines of shoes and skateboards, working with brands such as Converse and etnies.
This prolific skateboard star is also the owner of Pipeline Distribution and events company RunEvent, having organised Burning of the Witch skateboard competition in 2010 and putting on other events such as Glifberg’s skateboarding anniversary.
