Sam Turnbull is a Canadian vegan recipe blogger, teacher, and bestselling author. Her two cookbooks, Fast Easy Cheap Vegan and Fuss-Free Vegan, became Amazon number-one bestsellers and the former won the Silver Award at the 2022 Best Cookbook in Canada Awards. She has been featured by the likes of The Morning Show, CBC, Veg News, Buzzfeed, and many others. Her blog, It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken, is hugely popular, particularly on Instagram where it has more than 186,000 followers.
Turnbull swore she’d never become vegan. She grew up in a family of butchers, hunters, and chefs. Meat and dairy were what you ate, and vegans — even vegetarians — were silly extremists. However, in 2012, Turnbull watched an eye-opening documentary called Vegucated and began to question her beliefs — and her diet. After watching several other similar documentaries, she knew that she had to become vegan, a decision that also upset her because she loved eating meat and dairy and knew that finding vegan food that measured up wasn’t easy.
But Turnbull was committed, and she began working on her own recipes. When she found that her new diet was helping her to feel healthier and happier, she began sharing her recipes in the hope of persuading her friends and family to convert. Her blog, It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken, was born. Since then, Turnbull has become one of Canada’s most prominent vegans, and one with an international reputation. Her shining personality, her amazing recipes, and her bestselling cookbooks are all helping to inspire more and more people to go vegan.
