After growing up in an area of high crime and poverty, Sampson Davis MD overcame adversity to become one of America’s best known medical professionals.
Dr Davis was a good student throughout high school, but also had to grow up fast to avoid trouble with gangs and the law in his disadvantaged home town of Newark, New Jersey. He went on to attend university in the same city, where he met Dr Rameck Hunt and Dr George Jenkins, who quickly became lifelong friends and colleagues. Their close bond saw them through the challenges of medical school and together they have released a New York Times bestseller called The Pact: Three Young Men Make A Promise and Fulfil A Dream. The Three Doctors, as they’re now known, set up the Three Doctors Foundation, which educates and mentors inner city youth. Dr Davis travels around the United States giving talks to young people about opportunities and alternatives to gangs and crime. He has also written a book aimed at America’s youth, called The Stuff, which uses examples of everyday people doing extraordinary things to inspire teenagers to do the same.
His inspiring story and good natured personality has led to many appearances on television, on shows such as This Morning and The Today Show. Oprah Winfrey named him as one of the Premiere Role Models in the World, and Dr Davis is also the youngest physician ever to receive the National Medical Association’s Scroll of Merit, their highest honour. He continues to practice as an emergency medicine physician and inspire people around the world.
