Seohyun

Seo Ju-hyun, known professionally as Seohyun, was born on June 28, 1991, in Seoul, South Korea. As the only child in her family, her early life involved learning various artistic and athletic skills, including piano, violin, traditional Korean drums, horseback riding, and skating. Her parents supported her diverse interests, which ultimately led her to pursue a career in entertainment. At a young age, as a fifth grader, a talent scout discovered her on a subway train. She successfully auditioned for S.M. Entertainment by singing children’s songs and began her training as a trainee. Citing artists like BoA, S.E.S, and Fin.K.L. as inspirations, Seohyun developed a passion for communicating emotions through music.

In August 2007, Seohyun debuted as the youngest member of the girl group Girls’ Generation. The group quickly rose to international prominence following the release of their hit single “Gee” in 2009. Her early solo work included contributions to original soundtracks and a duet “JjaLaJaJJa” with Joo Hyun-mi, which earned a “Trot Music of the Year” nomination at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Beyond music, Seohyun expanded into acting, appearing in MBC’s variety show “We Got Married 2” (2010–2011) and providing voice acting for the Korean-dubbed versions of “Despicable Me” (2010) and “Despicable Me 2” (2013). In April 2012, she joined the Girls’ Generation subgroup TTS alongside Taeyeon and Tiffany, which achieved commercial success with EPs like “Twinkle” (2012), “Holler” (2014), and “Dear Santa” (2015). She also took on songwriting roles, exclusively writing lyrics for “Only U” and “Dear Santa.”

Seohyun continued to diversify her career, making her acting debut in the SBS drama “Passionate Love” (2013) and venturing into musical theatre with lead roles in “Moon Embracing the Sun” (2014), “Gone with the Wind” (2015), and “Mamma Mia!” (2016). Her performance in “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” (2016) earned her a Special Acting Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards. In January 2017, she released her debut solo extended play, “Don’t Say No,” which topped the South Korean Gaon Album Chart. The same year, she starred in MBC’s “Bad Thief, Good Thief” and earned the Best New Actress award at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards. After her contract with SM Entertainment ended in October 2017, she continued her acting career, notably in MBC’s melodrama “The Time” (2018), JTBC’s “Private Lives” (2020), Netflix’s film “Love and Leashes” (2022), and KBS’s “Jinxed at First” (2022), the latter earning her both Best New Actress and Best Couple awards at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards. She also appeared in the Netflix series “Song of the Bandits” (2023) and signed with Lead Entertainment in 2025, starring in films like “Holy Night: Demon Hunters” (2025) and the series “The First Night with the Duke” (2025).
