Simon Mario Kassianides was born on August 7, 1979, in London, England. He is of Greek Cypriot origin and was raised in Clapham. Kassianides received his education at Dulwich College and later attended the University of Edinburgh, where he studied International Business with Finance. During his time at university, he produced and executive produced a sold-out run of the musical ‘Grease’ at the George Square Theatre, with all profits being donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. After graduating in 2002, he was discovered by BAFTA award-winning producer Piers Vellacott.
Kassianides initially started a course at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama but left to accept a role in Tennessee Williams’ play ‘Night of the Iguana,’ where his performance as Pedro garnered critical acclaim. His early career also saw him featured in a BBC documentary, ‘Making it at Holby,’ which highlighted him as an emerging actor. Over the years, Kassianides has built a diverse acting portfolio in both UK and US television productions. His credits include appearances in British series such as ‘Casualty,’ ‘Spooks,’ ‘Ashes to Ashes,’ and ‘Hustle,’ as well as US productions like ‘Nikita,’ ‘Burn Notice,’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, where he played Sunil Bakshi from 2014 to 2017. He also notably appeared in the James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ in 2008 and the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian’ as Axe Woves from 2020 to 2023.
Beyond acting, Kassianides has expanded his career into directing and producing. In 2010, he produced, directed, and starred in the film ‘Geezas.’ This film was an official selection of the 2012 Hollywood Film Festival and received “Best Actor” and “Best Supporting Actress” awards at the 2013 British Independent Film Festival, with Kassianides also being nominated as a Discovery Director. His work ethic led to his appointment as a Global Consultant and Representative for the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in 2012, an organization dedicated to promoting Greek artists.
