The formidable Kirk Jones, better known by his stage name Sticky Fingaz, is a legendary hardcore rapper, record producer, actor, film director, editor, and writer, best known as a member of multi-platinum rap group Onyx. As an actor he is known for his performance as Tyrone in Next Friday, and as the title character in Marvel’s superhero show Blade: The Series.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jones grew up with a love for music and an ambition to be a DeeJay. He was discovered by Jam Master Jay of Run-D.M.C. fame, who signed Onyx on his label J.M.J. Records. Jones’s signature lazy eye, raspy voice, and boundless energy brought attention to the group, and he became their frontman under the name Sticky Fingaz. Onyx went on to release three top-selling albums before Sticky Fingaz began his solo career. He debut solo album, Black Trash: The Autobiography of Kirk Jones, was released in 2001 to critical acclaim. He released his second album, Decade: “…but wait it gets worse”, in 2003. It would thirteen years before the release of his third album, It’s About T.I.M.E., in 2019, which was also accompanied by a musical film. Aside from a successful career in rap, Jones also forged a career in TV and film, making his acting debut in 1993 in Forest Whitaker’s award-winning HBO drama Strapped. He has since gone on to appear in countless film and TV productions, including Spike Lee’s Clockers, Breaking Point, Lockdown, Next Friday, and Blade.
Sticky Fingaz occasionally connects with his legions of followers and fans through Twitter, posting pictures and videos about his life around music and acting.
