Canadian R&B star Taya Marquis is a singer-songwriter from Ontario. She went to Los Angeles after graduating in 2007 to write full-time and pursue a career in the music industry. Her desire propelled her into the studio with some heavy hitters in a short period of time. Marquis co-wrote the song “A La Discotheque” with platinum-selling artist Ke$ha in 2008. The song was made available as a free download in 2010. She also collaborated on the songwriting with songwriter Robert Allen.
Marquis wrote and performed the main theme song for Sony’s video game “The Agency,” which was nominated for Best Original Song in Video Game at the 2009 Hollywood Music Awards. She also collaborated with Maxwell D and Mo Greene on the song “Make It to the Sun,” which she co-wrote and performed. The song was contributed to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. She returned to Mississauga after two years in California to pursue Entertainment Business Management at Metalworks Institute of Sound and Music Production.
Marquis discovered that her time in Los Angeles and at Metalworks equipped her with the skills she needed to advance not only her musical career, but also her brand. She created Bi-Geminy Music Group with producer/engineer Mikal “Mikz” Gonzales in late 2009, while still in school. In 2010, the two collaborated on the song “One N Only,” which featured her alongside Rayvon and Kobra Khan (produced by Alikat of ABC Productions). After getting a personal invitation from founder Peter Soumalias, Marquis played at the 2011 Canada’s Walk of Fame Emerging Artist Showcase. She can be followed on Instagram and Twitter @tayamarquis.
