Thalía is the mononym of Ariadna Thala Sodi Miranda Mottola, a Mexican singer, businesswoman, and former actress. She was born in Mexico City and rose to fame as a member of the famous pop group Timbiriche from 1986 to 1989. One of Mexico’s most well-known and influential artists, she has been dubbed the “Queen of Latin Pop” by the international press. She is one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, with over 25 million albums sold worldwide. Thalía has performed in English, French, Portuguese, and Tagalog, in addition to her native Spanish.
She’s won a slew of awards, including five Billboard Latin Music Awards (from 17 nominations), several Premios Juventud and Lo Nuestro Awards, and seven Latin Grammy Award nominations, including the special “President’s Merit Award” in 2019. Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Robbie Williams, Marc Anthony, Laura Pausini, Romeo Santos, and Carlos Vives are among the artists with whom she’s worked. Thalía appeared in a number of popular telenovelas that aired in over 180 countries, earning her the moniker “Queen of Telenovelas”, with Billboard naming her the most well-known Spanish-language soap star in the country.
Terra Networks called her one of the “important and iconic women in Latin music” in 2011 and Billboard named her one of the “Greatest Latin Artists of All Time” in 2020. She was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on December 5, 2013, in recognition of her accomplishments as an artist. Thala is also the owner of a popular fashion company (with an exclusive contract with Macy’s), as well as the host of a nationally syndicated radio show and the author of four books, including her memoir. Thalía has been active in humanitarian causes throughout her career and has been a UNICEF Mexico Ambassador since 2016.
