When Theotis Beasley went out with his friends to Hawthorne Skatepark, he never thought he’d run into pro-skateboarder and co-founder of Baker Skateboards, Andrew Reynolds. Beasley was just twelve years old at the time, but he impressed Reynolds so much, the CEO offered Beasley a company flow sponsorship. Now in his thirties, this goofy-footer is a skateboarding sensation with countless sponsors, including Mountain Dew and Nike, to name a few.
Hailing from California, Beasley was gifted his first skateboard at age eleven from his cousin, so they could go to Hawthorne Skatepark together. After getting discovered and partnering with Baker Skateboards, Beasley was featured in the company’s 2005 skate video, Baker 3, where he performed a switch heelflip down nine stairs, garnering attention from skateboard fans around the world. The positive reception from his feature propelled his amateur career, making yet another deal with Baker Skateboards.
Since his debut video, Beasley has been in several skating parts, such as Struggle, Nike SB’s Debacle, Shake Junt’s Chicken Bone Nowison, Transworld’s Not Another Transworld Video, Baker’s Bake & Destroy, and lastly, Nike SB’s Hip Hop Hijack—for the latter, he had an elaborate trick that included a guest-star appearance from famous rapper, Lil Wayne.
By 2011, both Baker Skateboards and Nike SB promoted Beasley to professional status. His promotion was a surprise from Andrew Reynolds when Beasley was presenting a segment at the Transworld Awards. Since then, Beasley’s competed in major international tours, he’s amassed hundreds of thousands of followers across social media, and he even has three Baker board designs named after him.
