Tia-Clair Toomey is a widely renowned Australian Cross Fit Games athlete and weightlifter. She was born in Brisbane in 1993. As a child Toomey was naturally athletic, enjoying competing mainly in track and field and demonstrating great promise as an athlete. She was a runner initially and only became involved in CrossFit in 2013 when she was introduced to the sport. Her boyfriend who is now her husband Shane Orr encouraged her to go to a Cross Fit session with him. In the CrossFit classes she learned the techniques of weightlifting and developed endurance and strength.
Toomey started to achieve success in CrossFit; she was runner up in the CrossFit Games in 2015 and 2016. Miles Wydall a weightlifting coach spotted her when she lifted 80 kg clean and jerk. He advised her to train to go to the 2016 Olympics competing in weightlifting representing Australia. After 18 months of hard work, she managed to qualify. She competed in the 58 kg category and came 14th. She also competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 58 kg category and won gold.
In 2017, 2018 and 2019 she won the CrossFit Games. She initially owned a gym with her husband who is her coach. In 2019 they sold it and moved to Cookeville Tenessee. She now trains at a gym CrossFit Mayhem owned and operated by Rich Froning. She trains religiously and often spends four hours in the gym during the morning and possibly swimming in the afternoon.
