Timothy Dalton

Timothy Dalton, a classically trained actor, made his notable film debut as King Philip of France in the critically acclaimed ‘The Lion in Winter’ (1968) after rigorous training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) from 1964 to 1966. Following his studies, he joined the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and quickly transitioned into television, notably appearing in the 14-episode series ‘Sat’day While Sunday’ (1967). Dalton’s early film career also included starring roles as Heathcliff in ‘Wuthering Heights’ (1970), ‘Cromwell’ (1970), and ‘Mary, Queen of Scots’ (1971). Throughout the mid-1970s, he honed his craft in classical theatre, performing lead roles in productions like ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘King Lear’ with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Prospect Theatre Company.

He returned to critical acclaim on television as Sir Malcolm Murray in the Showtime horror drama ‘Penny Dreadful’ (2014-2016), appearing across three seasons. In recent years, Dalton has maintained a significant presence in high-profile television series. He took on the integral role of the Chief in the DC Comics-inspired ‘Doom Patrol’ from 2019 to 2023, and appeared as Peter Townsend in the acclaimed Netflix historical drama ‘The Crown’ (2022). Most recently, he joined the ensemble cast of Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama ‘1923’ as Donald Whitfield, with his role spanning from 2023 to 2025.
