Tom Ford is a well known American fashion designer and filmmaker. Prior to the creation of his own brand, Ford worked for the likes of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, but now his self-named company is one of the biggest in the world. He has also used his creativity to create two award winning movies.
Ford worked his way to the top of the fashion industry, launching his own company in 2006 after many years of experience with big fashion brands. Ford defined his intended style of the brand to be for strong, intelligent women who know their own style. Soon, everyone was desperate to be seen wearing his clothes. Michelle Obama wore Ford’s clothing in 2011 for a trip to Buckingham Palace, and many celebrities followed suit by wearing his designs. Ford was even commissioned to create the iconic suits which Daniel Craig wore in his final four appearances as James Bond.
Ford wasn’t content to simply have one of the best known brands in the world. In 2009, he wrote and produced A Single Man, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. The plot follows a gay man who has just lost his partner, and Firth was nominated for an Oscar in his role as the main character. Ford then went on to create Nocturnal Animals, a 2016 thriller based on the novel, Tony and Susan. The film was also nominated for an Oscar, and Aaron Taylor Johnson won a Golden Globe for his performance in it. Both films were met with critical acclaim worldwide.
Ford’s legacy will continue for a long time, and while he’s still making fashion, he will always have fans. With over nine million followers on Instagram desperate to see more from him, Ford’s brand won’t be going anywhere for a long time.
