Tom Higgenson is an Illinois-born American musician. In 1997 he and his high school friends Dave Tirio, and Ken Fletcher formed the band Plain White T’s. Early on, the band had a largely underground following in Chicago basements, clubs, and pubs. The band is best known for their number-one hit song “Hey There Delilah,” which went platinum and received two Grammy nominations in 2007. In 2009 and 2011, the singles “1234” and “Rhythm of Love” were both certified platinum. During his time with the band, Higgenson has sang lead vocals and played keyboards, acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar. Check out the band on Instagram @plainwhitets where they have over 50 thousand followers.
Higgenson also hosts the I F’N Love That Song podcast, which is for all music fans who want to learn the backstory and never-before-heard facts behind the world’s most popular tunes. On it he delves deeper into this topic with a new episode every week, featuring an open debate between songwriters about the experience of writing and the story behind the song. Johnny Rzeznik, Chris Tompkins, Mitch Allan, Zac Barnett, Baby Fuzz, and Shelly Peiken have all appeared as guests.
Humans Were Here, a Chicago-based independent label, was created by Higgenson in 2017. He gives artists the tools they need to make their imprint. He brings two decades of experience composing, recording, performing, and touring to a cutting-edge record label with a tradition of artist development. Fairview, a romantic acoustic pop band, and TLB, a punk powerhouse, were the label’s first two flagship performers. Follow Higgenson on Instagram @higgypop.
