Wayne Chrebet began his career as an NFL level Football wide receiver at high school, going on to achieve collegiate success playing for Hofstra, even tying a record held by NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. Chrebet was inducted into the Hofstra University Athletic Hall of Fame, however despite his success the footballer wasn’t considered for NFL standards due to his fragile form.
Chrebet, however, made history as the first Hofstra alumnus to make an NFL team in three decades, with a stellar performance at the Jets’ training camp. The sportsman was even stopped and detained on entering at the front gate on his first day of training by a security guard, who thought Chrebet too small to be a real player. However, although Chrebet entered the camp at a time where the NFL teams rarely carried more than five receivers into the season, the sports superstar managed to make the team easily and went on to play 11 seasons for the New York Jets in the National Football League, against all odds.
Chrebet has since opened up two restaurants, including a steakhouse, and has also gone on to work as a financial advisor and assistant vice president of Barclays Capital in New York. Chrebet still routinely gets involved in NFL events, routinely being invited to Jets’ games as a guest of honour, as well as taking part in his passion: horse racing.
