Olympic athlete Wenqiang Geng is a Chinese skeleton racer who has been racing professionally for 4 years.
Geng is part of the next generation of Chinese athletes, and is already making waves on the international scene despite only having raced for a few years. Back in 2016 he competed in the Europe Cup, the North American Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, establishing himself as an athlete to watch in the coming years. He placed sixth in the North American Cup, an impressive feat for a sportsman on his first time out at the tournament. Geng continued to work his way up, the following year placing fifth at the Intercontinental Cup and standing out at the pre-season training events. In 2018 he had his big breakthrough, being selected to represent his home country at the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea. In the same year, Geng took home a gold medal at the North American Cup and a bronze at the Europe Cup, making 2018 his best year to date.
Most recently, this young athlete has continued his rise to the top, with another North American Cup gold medal in 2019 and a record breaking win at the World Cup in 2020, where Geng became the first Chinese athlete ever to win a medal at the prestigious competition. With many more years of his career ahead of him, this skeleton racer is one of the most exciting on the scene today.
