Widely credited as being the man who created the blueprint for the sound of techno in the mid-’80s, the Detroit native formed the apex of the movement alongside fellow ‘Belleville Three’ pioneers Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May.
A hugely influential figure, his productions under his own name, Cybotron, Model 500 and many other aliases have helped forge not only the sound of techno, but of many other genres whose proponents are indebted to his music. He remains one of the most unique and enduring figures in electronic music.
Recent years have seen him release on Tresor – including a collaboration with Basic Channel’s Moritz van Oswald – and as part of the Scion A/V project. He is soon to release new Model 500 album ‘Digital Solutions’ on his own long-running Metroplex Records label – a preview of which you can hear in the player above.
