Olympic beach volleyball player Marco Grimalt was among the first athletes to benefit from Corona’s game-changing Relaxation Clause in their partnership deals.
Grimalt’s partnership with Corona’s non-alcoholic Cero brand was facilitated by MN2S. It follows on from Cero’s presence at the recent Olympic Games in France, where it was the global beer sponsor. Going forward, both Grimalt and other Corona-affiliated athletes will have a Relaxation Clause included in their contracts, ensuring that, as part of the deal, athletes take sufficient time to rest and unwind. Contracts have even been extended to incorporate relaxation periods. We interviewed Grimalt ahead of his participation in the 2024 Olympics, which you can listen to below.
“Corona believes in the importance of relaxation and balance, with a long history of inspiring people to relax more often and enjoy nature,” explains Clarissa Pantoja, Vice President of Corona Global. “We’re so proud to introduce the Relaxation Clause in our sponsorships as it requires our ambassadors live our beliefs. With these new terms, Corona continues to inspire people to disconnect and reconnect with nature, including our athlete partners, who will now have down time with friends and family when they need it most.”
When it came to Corona selecting athletes to pair with, Chile’s Marco Grimalt was a natural choice. He’s talented, driven, dedicated to his sport, and has played his part in beach volleyball history. In 2018, his playing partner and cousin, Esteban, became the first Chilean beach volleyball players to win a world tournament, taking golf at the final in Tokyo, Japan. He has represented his country at the highest levels of beach volleyball for more than 15 years, winning his first major at the 2010 South American Games. He has since won gold medals at both the South American and Pan American Games. Paris was his third Olympic Games, and for the second Games in a row, he made the final 16.In a post on his Instagram account, Grimalt showed off his personalized golden Corona bottle and spoke about his constant search for his sporting evolution. His ongoing partnership with Corona Cero and its fantastic well-being clause sees him join a diverse band of celebrated Olympians, including Brazilian surfers Gabriel Medina and Tatiana Weston Webb, Colombian BMXer Mariana Pajón, South African swimmer Tatjana Smith, and British cyclist Evie Richards.
