Beatport has launched a bi-monthly competition to help aspiring producers and DJs.
Music downloads site Beatport has teamed up with partners from throughout the industry — including Mixcloud, Future Music, the Association for Electronic Music, and Point Blank Music School, on their new Beats in School competition.
Taking place once every two months, Beats in School will see school-aged producers going head to head for a chance to win professional equipment from Roland, Pioneer, Serato, Korg, and Akai; an official release on Circus Recordings, Dirtybird, Hospital Records or Anjunabeats; press coverage for their release; and lessons from Point Blank Music School. Some worthy prizes, to say the least, and some that will definitely help kickstart a young DJ’s career.
To enter, students must create a track that fits a featured label’s sound (first up is Circus Recordings), and upload it to a mix on Mixcloud. Then, a shortlist of 20 finalists will be chosen. From that shortlist, the label will pick a winner, and support that winner with A&R for one year.
This is truly one of the best opportunities around for young producer-DJs, and definitely one that all school-age musicians should apply for. As long as you’ve finished your homework.
