DJ Yella Reunites with NWA | News | MN2S

Recent MN2S signee and veteran hip hop producer DJ Yella reunited with his NWA bandmates for the group’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Ice Cube’s set at Coachella.

NWA was introduced at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony by fellow Compton native Kendrick Lamar. Lamar praised each member of the band one by one, starting with DJ Yella. He said Yella’s great personality and charisma shine through in his production, which includes “some of the illest breaks, cuts, and scratching,” of all time. “Every time my boy Yella dropped that needle, you knew it was time to get busy,” Lamar said. “Only the most elite MCs can rap over his beats.”

After Kendrick’s introduction, the four surviving members of NWA gave their own speeches. DJ Yella paid tribute to the late Eazy E. The two of them had a long working relationship that lasted after the breakup of NWA right up until Eazy E’s passing. Yella said NWA is a fraternity “for life,” and that no one can “buy their way in, lie their way in, or cheat their way in.”

Just over a week after the induction, Ice Cube brought out DJ Yella and MC Ren to perform the NWA classics ‘Straight Outta Compton’, ‘Fuck tha Police’ and ‘Dopeman’ during his storming set at Coachella. With Dr Dre missing it wasn’t quite the NWA reunion that was rumoured, but it was still a night to remember for hip hop fans.
