Florida roots, Georgia grit, and a mission she calls hood gospel.
Alex Marie, born Monalisa Mosely, is a singer, rapper and label boss whose music turns hard-won life experience into something people can dance to, sit with, or find themselves in. Raised between Tampa, Florida and Georgia, she built her sound on real storytelling long before she built a brand around it. Since breaking through with early singles and the 2023 “Uncaged” EP, she has become known for a genre-blurring style she calls “hood gospel,” most recently distilled into her 2025 single “GOYAMS (Get Off Yo Ahh Make Something)”. Alongside her own catalogue, she runs Doué Voix Records, a label she built to elevate “unique sounds and gifted voices,” and has been profiled by Shoutout Atlanta for her work developing independent artists. Alex Marie is now working with MN2S Label Services as she moves into the next chapter of her career.
How did you get into music? What is your musical background?
Music has been around me my whole life. My mother was a big musical influence, so singing was never something I decided to do one day, it was something I grew up around. As I got older I realised I had my own stories to tell, and that pulled me toward songwriting and then rapping. I didn’t get into music trying to fit into an industry. I got into it because I had something to say.
Tell us about your first release and what was special about that one.
My first official release was “Hard Times” in 2021. The message was simple but powerful: hard times don’t last forever. I was putting real emotion into that song, and it became my way of reminding people, including myself, that whatever you’re going through isn’t the end of your story. The recognition it got helped lead to me becoming the first female artist signed to Waytrilla Fam [NEEDS ARTIST INPUT: please confirm this and share any press coverage, as I could not verify it independently] in 2021. Looking back, that record didn’t just introduce me to the industry, it taught me that sometimes you have to create the opportunity before you can see where it’s going to take you.
Tell us about the latest project you worked on.
My latest is GOYAMS, “Get Off Yo Ahh Make Something.” It’s bigger than a song, it’s a mindset. I’m not waiting for permission or for the perfect circumstances anymore, I’m creating the circumstances. That mindset runs through everything I’m doing now, as an artist, as a CEO, and through Doué Voix Records. I’ve faced real adversity along the way, and getting off my ahh and making something of myself is something I push my own children, and everyone around me, to do too.
Could you describe your musical style and creative vision?
I’d describe my sound as hood gospel. That doesn’t necessarily mean traditional gospel music, it’s about taking real life, the struggle, the mistakes, the wins, the pain, the ambition, the faith, and turning it into something meaningful. I can make you want to dance, I can talk my stuff, I can make something vulnerable, and I can give you something that makes you reflect. I don’t want to put myself in a box. My creative vision is authenticity. I want people to hear my music and feel like they’re hearing a real woman who has actually lived the things she’s talking about.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of entering the music industry?
Learn the business. Talent can open a door, but if you don’t understand the business, somebody else controls what happens after you walk through it. Learn your contracts, your splits, your publishing, royalties, distribution, copyrights, masters, marketing and branding. Understand what you’re signing and why. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to build your own table. I didn’t want to only be an artist waiting for an opportunity, I wanted to understand how to create opportunities, not just for myself but for other artists too.
What are your plans for the rest of the year and beyond?
For the rest of 2026 I’m focused on building Doué Voix Records into the kind of label and platform I always wanted to see for independent artists. I’m moving into a new chapter with MN2S Label Services, and I’m excited about what that means for my music and for the artists connected to Doué Voix Records. I thought about the artists I currently work with, the ones I’ve worked with in the past, and the ones I’ll work with in the future when I made this decision. I’m building something that can support all of us. We’re going through onboarding now, and I’m excited to get our first release moving through the new system. I don’t feel like I’m approaching the finish line. I feel like I’m finally at the starting line of something much bigger.
