YouTube have announced details of their long-awaited music subscription service Music Key.
The service will cost $9.99 in the US – so expect that to be £9.99 in the UK if it’s the same as other services like Spotify – and allows ad-free playback of thousands of songs. ‘Background listening’ and ‘offline playback’ are also promised.
Music Key is apparently laid out in the same way as a normal YouTube page, but comes with better organisation – with tracks linked to artist and album pages – and improved music discovery and suggestions. Tracks which don’t have accompanying music videos will be displayed with artist or album artwork.
The beta version launches to a select handful on Monday 17 November before opening to the general public in 2015.
