MN2S | News | Jay Sean leaves Cash Money

R&B star Jay Sean has announced he is parting ways with his label Cash Money Records, citing a desire to pursue a different creative direction as the motive.

I had and still maintain a great relationship with Slim and Baby [CEOs of Cash Money],” he told Billboard. “They believed in me and my talent and our partnership obviously garnered a lot of pop success.[But] it got to the point where I was chasing pop success and ‘the smash’ when really my heart wasn’t in it anymore. That’s not why I got into this game.”

He has released a video for new track ‘Tears In The Ocean’, (below) filmed by his brother and co-produced by his wife. He says the return to more of a classic R&B sound stemmed from wanting “to make music that meant something, that had substance.

When Sade drops a new album, you know she’s not going to be suddenly singing over a EDM beat produced by the hottest DJ at the time or jumpin’ on the bandwagon of what the latest ‘sound’ is. You should be able to do you. That’s what differentiates an artist from a singer.”
