Akil Thomas has appeared on Ontario’s biggest sports entertainment show, OLG Game Plan. The player appeared on their final episode to have a candid discussion with Brad Smith and Ashley Docking. Speaking about coming from a long line of hockey players, Akil commented that he never felt pressure to play hockey. “I took hockey from day one – it was just my thing and everybody knew that.” Akil also spoke about his podcast, Soul on Ice, which explores BIPOC stories: “In hockey, it’s not really normalized to be out there with these issues. I’m just gonna be myself and I hope people like that. The podcast is pretty cool for breaking down stuff for people who may not get hockey culture.”
