The artist formerly known as Maxsta promotes his new release in an interview with Wonderland.
Rapper, producer, model and MN2S PR client Ian Leone has been interviewed by Wonderland. Speaking about his new single, Basquiat, he commented: “It was basically me giving ode, paying respect to art and to Basquiat: two things that I feel like have dramatically shaped the person I am. I really wanted to celebrate art, friendship, the vibe that I have with the people that I love. That is the concept.” Leone went on to discuss his change in alias and artistic direction, remarking: “I had got to a point where I was really upset about the music I was making, I felt I had got caught up in “playing the game” trying to give the people what they want rather than listen to Ian. People might see me skateboarding in a dress right, I feel like that’s not what the “Maxsta” brand is for the people who enjoyed it, I knew it was time to change my name and just do what I wanna do on some trill shit.” Check out the full interview here.
Ian Koromah was born in Lewisham, South London, in 1992, and began learning piano and guitar while still in school. He became active in the growing London grime scene as part of the Mucky Wolfpack collective after a brief interest in rock music and skateboarding culture — and a transfer to East London. Ian chose to go solo, and his debut release as Maxsta, “East London Is Back,” drew the attention of the BBC’s urban radio section 1Xtra, as well as BBC Radio 1. Maxtape, the mixtape, was released in 2010.
