The inspiring Krystal Lake is a DJ, influencer, content creator, and public speaker. She has become a influential voice on TikTok and beyond for the LGBTQ+ community, people of colour, and women, providing honest news and uncovering buried aspects of history that affect those groups — the stuff that schools don’t teach. Informative yet relatable, the London-based creator uses her experiences as a queer Black, American woman to help uplift those struggling with issues around mental health, identity, and discrimination. Her 540k audience on TikTok has seen her named as one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30, as a Top 10 Influencer by the LGBT Awards, and named as one of Vogue’s Rising Stars.
Lake’s DJ career has seen her back the likes of influential rapper Ashnikko. She also worked behind the scenes at major outlets such as CNBC and UNILAD, becoming acquainted with the dark underbelly of how the news works. Seeing how stories were regularly manipulated by big brands to suit their own agenda, struggling to find social media accounts that reflected her experiences, and even getting targeted by the KKK after creating an anti-Trump hat which consequently made global headlines, Krystal decided to be the voice that she wanted to hear.
As always happens when someone speaks their truth, Lake found an appreciative audience of like- minded souls who found what she had to say invaluable. In just three years, she spoke at Forbes, led panels at SXSW and WaterAid, and was featured by the likes of Amazon Prime, ITV, and the New York Times. From this solid foundation, she is working to grow her presence on other social platforms and off-app.
