Casual music fans know Jaime Gomez as one quarter of US chart-toppers The Black Eyed Peas. But those who have been paying attention know him as Taboo, the accomplished actor/dancer/author/philanthropist/shoe designer/DJ.
Last month saw the release of Taboo’s latest single, ‘TRANSM1T’. The song’s video, co-directed by Taboo himself, features dance troupe the Kinjaz who perform with Taboo throughout. Taboo says that though he has showcased his dancing on a few occasions with the Black Eyed Peas, it is “a blessing” to be able to transmit his dance moves as a solo artist, in collaboration with the Kinjaz.
The song itself is a poppy affair, with Taboo’s processed vocals carrying the song after a short rapped introduction. The track’s lyrics build on themes from Taboo’s earliest Black Eyed Peas work – worldwide smash ‘Where is the Love?’ in particular. “One nation we are/So put up your hearts/It’s love that we transmit,” Taboo tells us in the song’s chorus.
In his typically philanthropic fashion, Taboo dedicates the song’s video to the people of Paris.
