Steph Shilton interviewed for BBC News and BBC Look East | MN2S

Steph Shilton spoke with the BBC about her husband’s struggle with gambling addiction.

MN2S PR client Steph Shilton has spoken with the BBC for an interview surrounding her husband’s gambling addiction, and the charitable project she’s involved with. Shilton, the wife of former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, worked at a high level within England’s NHS for 27 years. She spoke on the BBC this month about the Six to Ten Project, a charitable initiative that she’s advocating for. Supporting those affected by gambling addiction, the project has a particular resonance for Shilton, as her husband struggled to battle an addiction to gambling for several decades. Speaking about the moment her and Peter decided to move into charitable work, she recalled: “I told Peter he had to do something; his voice would be huge. He was very emotional and said, ‘That’s it, I’ve got to try and save lives’.”

Ara is a charitable organization that provides essential help for those suffering from addiction and mental health issues across Wales and southwest England. Based in Bristol, their motto is “Recovery for All”, and they’ve had much success helping those suffering from gambling addiction. Ara has recently launched the Six to Ten Project. This is a partnership initiative with two other UK charities that places those directly affected by an individual’s harmful gambling at the centre of care. This means that the family and friends of gambling addicts now have somewhere to find free and confidential help and advice – for both them and the person gambling.
