10 essential Instagram stats | News | Social Media Management | MN2S

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat. What do these platforms have in common with brands in 2020?

They are all used in some form or fashion for business promotion. Gone are the archaic days of manipulating billboard strategies and television commercial hacks to get eyeballs on your product. Social networks are completely dominating as one of the most effective tools for marketing a product or a brand to the masses. Among the most popular and effective platforms is Instagram, and we’re going to go over ten essential Instagram stats that your brand should use in 2020.

1 billion people use Instagram every month.

There are 7.5 billion human beings on earth. That’s a lot of people. Know what else is a lot of people? 1 billion; as in the number of unique users that Instagram tracks as using their platform every month. I want you to comprehend just how mind boggling that is. Around one seventh of the entire human population is on Instagram. This statistic shows that Instagram is the second-ranked traditional social network in terms of active users, only behind social network behemoth Facebook. That alone should provoke marketing ideas and strategies for your brand’s promotion to the masses.

89% of users are located outside of the United States.

Instagram’s global reach is massive. Taking advantage of international marketing has never been easier. Of the 1 billion users that are currently on Instagram, only 110 million (which leads every country) are in the United States. That leaves the rest of the world with 890 million users. Rounding out the countries with the most Instagram users are Brazil with 70 million, India with 69 million, Indonesia with 59 million and Russia with 40 million users. This stat really helps when it comes to defining your target audience.

The gender mix is 52% female and 48% male.

Instagram has a pretty even playing field when it comes to the gender of its users. Knowing this should deter you from gathering any negative assumptions that your marketing will struggle to reach your target audience. You simply cannot make any assumptions about the demographics of your followers, but instead utilize social media analytics tools to obtain and take advantage of detailed information on your audience.

A third of the most viewed Instagram stories are from businesses and brands.

People pay attention to their favourite brands. Companies have never been more accessible to the everyday person. Stories can be thought of as a more intimate and personal approach to sharing content and consumers want that level of connection to their favourite brands. So, don’t feel like, as a business you should only stick to Instagram posts, utilise those stories as well.

75.3% of businesses in the US will use Instagram in 2020.

You know the old saying; if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. More and more businesses are realising the impact that social media has on marketing and are jumping on board the Instagram ship. eMarketer is a leading credible source and they believe that these are the numbers we’ll be looking at this year. Just know that if you’re not on Instagram, your competition likely is. Don’t get left behind.

Brand stories have an 85% completion rate.

In 2018 that number was way down at a completion rate of 69%. This is excellent news for businesses!Consumers are more interested in their favourite brands than ever before because of the level of personal access that Instagram provides. They’re watching and completing the stories that businesses post. Take advantage: advertise your products or services through stories and they’ll likely be seen and heard by thousands.

Instagram is the most popular traditional social networking platform among US teens.

Technically, YouTube is more popular amongst teenagers, but there is a debate as to whether YouTube is even considered a social networking site. There is no debate around Instagram. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but teens consume everything through social media and Instagram reigns supreme. Meaning that if you include teenagers in your marketing demographic, Instagram is the way to go, as 72% of US teens use it over every other social networking platform. Facebook only has a 51% preference rate, so this is one of the rare statistics in which Instagram outshines Facebook.

200 million Instagram users visit at least one business profile daily.

eMarketer has reported that the average user spent 27 minutes on Instagram per day in 2019. They predict that that number will increase to 28 minutes per day in 2020. The time spent on Facebook by the average user has slowly been decreasing and in 2019 Instagram has passed Snapchat in average amount of time spent on the platform by the average user. So, based on the title of this heading, what do you think those users on Instagram are spending their time doing?

62% of people say that they have become more interested in a brand or product after seeing it in Instagram stories.

If you’re not using stories, let alone Instagram in 2020, then this is one of those stats that strongly recommends doing so. The entire purpose behind marketing is to increase brand awareness, and this tool is considered one of the heavy hitters in doing just that. If you’re unsure as to what to post on your Instagram story, you can start with reiterating the Instagram post that you already have up and encourage users to check it out. You can also use search engines for many articles on Instagram story content.

73% of US teens say that Instagram is the best way for brands to reach them about new products and promotions.

Remember what I said about teenagers consuming everything through social networks and that Instagram reigned supreme? The next best option for brands to target teens is Snapchat at 49% and email at a measly 37%. Teenagers are easily influenced and therefore will be more open to making a purchase themselves or finding a way to have someone make that purchase for them. If you can get into the game of reaching the teenage demographic, Instagram is going to be your best weapon of choice to ensure that you stay there.
