Dj Hell

Achieving international recognition with his first self-produced single, ‘My Definition of House Music’ (R&S, 1992), which sold over 100,000 copies, DJ Hell established himself as a pivotal figure in electronic music. He showcased his innovative approach through early residencies, notably becoming one of Germany’s first house DJs and organizing the country’s inaugural acid house party in 1987. By the early 1990s, he played a crucial role in establishing Peter Wacha’s Disko B label as A&R manager until 1996, also compiling the world’s first trance compilation, ‘Logic Trance,’ as A&R manager for Logic Records in Frankfurt in 1992. His reputation grew with prominent residencies, notably a year-long stint at Limelight in New York City with Jeff Mills in 1993.

DJ Hell’s debut album, ‘Geteert & Gefedert,’ was released on Disko B in 1994. A monumental step came in 1996 with the founding of International Deejay Gigolos, a label he masterminded as A&R and art director, releasing over 300 singles and albums from major artists between 1996 and 2016. His second album, ‘Munich Machine’ (1998), was lauded by The Guardian as a catalyst for electroclash, leading to his recognition as ‘Man of the Year’ by GQ Magazine in 2003. From 2000 to 2003, DJ Hell managed the Villa Traunstein disco and nightclub, additionally serving as musical coordinator for fashion designer Michael Michalsky from 2007 to 2010.

Currently, DJ Hell serves as an ambassador for the DFB for UEFA Euro 2024 and is a curator for the prestigious Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM).
