Funkmaster Flex

Funkmaster Flex has established himself as a pioneering DJ and radio host, influencing hip-hop culture and expanding into television and automotive design. After launching his own specialized rap program on Hot 97 in the spring of 1992, Funkmaster Flex cemented the station’s role as the first pop station in New York to prominently feature rap music. He quickly became a fixture at Hot 97, with his show later airing nationally through syndication and becoming renowned for his signature ‘bomb drop’ sound effect. Flex played a significant role in breaking new music, including Kanye West & Jay-Z’s ‘Otis’ in 2011.

In 2010, Flex returned to Spike TV with ‘Fast Machines with Funkmaster Flex,’ blending custom car builds for celebrities with reality elements, and launched his news website InFlexWeTrust.com. He also returned to MTV with ‘Funk Flex Full Throttle’ in 2010 and appeared on VH1’s ‘This Is Hot 97’ in 2014. Additionally, he produced the annual eight-city Funkmaster Flex Custom Car & Bike Show Tour and collaborated with Ford Motor Company on automotive design for several models since 2005, alongside contributions to video games such as ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ and ‘Def Jam Vendetta.’ In 2020, Funkmaster Flex announced plans for an upcoming album under his label IFWT Films and Records, featuring artists including Juice Wrld, Kodak Black, and Pop Smoke, releasing the lead single ‘Lurkin” the same year. This project underscores his continued impact across music, media, and automotive industries.
