Melanie C, known as Sporty Spice, is a British singer, songwriter, and DJ who transitioned from pop music icon to a respected solo artist and motivational figure, recognized for her powerful vocals and advocacy for mental health. After rising to international fame in 1994 as a member of the iconic pop group the Spice Girls, Melanie C went on to become a respected solo artist, songwriter, and DJ. As Sporty Spice, she contributed to the group’s immense global success, which included selling over 100 million records worldwide and scoring nine number-one singles in the UK, such as ‘Wannabe,’ ‘Say You’ll Be There,’ and ‘2 Become 1.’ The Spice Girls’ debut album, ‘Spice’ (1996), sold 30 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album by a girl group in music history. Their cultural phenomenon extended to the film ‘Spice World’ (1997), which grossed $100 million globally.
In 2022, she released her memoir, ‘Who I Am: My Story,’ and received the Inspirational Artist Award at the Music Week: Women in Music Awards. Melanie C continues to perform and release new music, with her ninth studio album, ‘Sweat,’ planned for a 2026 release in partnership with Virgin Music Group.
