Cornelius Ferguson, known as Traxman, is a foundational figure in Chicago’s footwork and ghetto house music scenes, recognized for his extensive contributions as a producer, DJ, and archivist of the city’s dance music history. After co-founding G.E.T.O. DJz, Inc. in 1992, Traxman established himself as a prominent producer and DJ within Chicago’s house and footwork genres.
His recording debut on Dance Mania in 1996 marked his entry into the glory days of ghetto house. Traxman further solidified his influence as a co-founder of the Chicago-based Geto DJ’s Inc., a collective active for two decades, and as a key member of the Teklife crew alongside artists DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. He also founded the Tekk DJz crew and was instrumental in creating legendary mixtapes, serving as a prototype for juke and footwork music, characterized by a unique blend of hip-hop’s funk, footwork’s drum programming, and Chicago’s house music history. Traxman’s deep musical knowledge, rooted in Chicago’s soul, funk, house, and ghetto trax traditions, positioned him as a veteran crate-digger, sourcing samples for numerous classic house, juke, and footwork tracks.
Traxmans consistent artistic contributions extended into recent years, with releases such as ‘2020 Trackz,’ ‘Acid Lyfe Vol. 2,’ and ‘Earth, Wind & Fire House & Juked Out Reworkz’ in 2019 and 2020. He further cemented his legacy with ‘A Decade Of Traxman Remixxes Vol. 1’ and ‘F..k F.B Trackz’ in 2020.
As an active DJ, he continues to integrate unofficial edits across diverse genres into his sets. Traxman is slated to release ‘Da Mind of Traxman Vol. 3’ in 2025, further adding to his extensive catalog as a foundational figure in electronic music.
