Adrienne Eliza Bailon-Houghton was born on October 24, 1983, in New York City, New York. Her musical journey began early, singing with her church choir. A significant turning point occurred in 1999 when Ricky Martin discovered her singing at Madison Square Garden, leading to her selection as a backup vocalist for his concert. Shortly after, she joined the R&B girl group 3LW, alongside Kiely Williams and Naturi Naughton. The group’s self-titled debut album, “3LW,” released in 2000, achieved double-platinum status. After Naughton’s departure, Adrienne and Kiely continued as a duo and later embraced their roles in The Cheetah Girls franchise.
In 2003, Bailon starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie “The Cheetah Girls.” The success of the film led to the formation of a real-life girl group, with Bailon as a core member. The group released albums like “Cheetah-licious Christmas” (2005) and “TCG” (2007), and starred in sequels “The Cheetah Girls 2” (2006) and “The Cheetah Girls: One World” (2008). Beyond music, she expanded into acting, appearing in films such as “Coach Carter” (2005) as Dominique, and “All You’ve Got.” (2006) She also had a recurring role in “That’s So Raven” (2003–2004) as Alana Rivera. From 2013 to 2022, Bailon co-hosted the syndicated daytime talk show “The Real,” becoming the first Latina host of a daytime talk show in the United States and earning a Daytime Emmy Award in 2018 for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. In 2017, she released her debut solo album, “New Tradiciones,” a Christmas album that quickly rose to number 1 on the Latin charts.
Bailon-Houghton has also ventured into entrepreneurship, launching her jewelry line XIXI in 2018 and a vegan handbag line named La Voûte. Her television presence continued with participation in “The Masked Singer” (2019), where she finished third as “Flamingo.” She reprised her role as Alana Rivera, now Principal Alana Rivera, in “Raven’s Home” (2022) and served as a co-anchor for “E! News” from 2022 to 2023. Looking ahead, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton is slated to star as Arianna in the musical adaptation of “Take the Lead” at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2025.
