About

Alessia Caracciolo, known professionally as Alessia Cara, was born on July 11, 1996, in Mississauga, Ontario, and grew up in Brampton, Canada. She began her career at age 13 by posting acoustic covers of popular songs like “Love Yourself” and “Sweater Weather” on YouTube. Her online presence led to her signing with EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings in 2014, marking the beginning of her professional journey in music. Her debut single, “Here,” released in 2015, quickly gained traction, peaking at number 19 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and achieving sleeper hit status in the U.S., reaching number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Cara’s debut studio album, “Know-It-All” (2015), reached number eight on the Canadian Albums Chart and number nine on the Billboard 200. The album featured the successful third single, “Scars to Your Beautiful,” which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016. She continued to achieve commercial success through collaborations, including the seven-times platinum-certified single “Stay” with Zedd in 2017, and a feature on Logic’s “1-800-273-8255” alongside Khalid. In 2018, Cara made history as the first Canadian artist to win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Her second studio album, “The Pains of Growing” (2018), received Juno Awards for Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year, and she also earned the Juno Award for Songwriter of the Year.

Her career progression continued with the release of the EP “This Summer” in 2019 and her third album, “In the Meantime” (2021), which garnered positive critical reviews. Cara further expanded her creative output with her debut voice role as Jane Willoughby in the 2020 Netflix animated movie “The Willoughbys.” She continued to contribute to film and television with original songs like “The Use In Trying” for “PAW Patrol: The Movie” (2021) and “Feel You Now” for “Blade Runner: Black Lotus.”

In 2025, Cara released her fourth album, “Love & Hyperbole,” which was met with positive reception. Beyond her musical achievements, Cara has been open about her experiences with synesthesia, keratosis pilaris, alopecia areata, and mental health struggles, often incorporating these personal themes into her artistry.
