Almost Monday was formed in 2015 in San Diego, California, by Dawson Daugherty (vocals), Luke Fabry (bass, keyboards), and Cole Clisby (lead guitar). The initial formation involved Daugherty and Fabry, who were long-time friends and grew up together in San Diego’s North County, with Daugherty meeting Clisby through surfing. The band’s early days saw them performing at local venues, including a surf shop, and they initially considered the name The Mondays before settling on Almost Monday. Daugherty and Fabry attended Point Loma Nazarene University, while Clisby attended the University of California, San Diego. The band’s first Instagram post dates back to November 23, 2015, signaling the official start of their musical journey. Their debut single, “Take Me Higher,” was released in 2017, achieving modest local radio play.
After some lineup changes in their early years, the band solidified as a trio in early 2019. This period marked a turning point with the release of their single “Broken People” on April 22, 2019, which reached number 27 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay charts. This success led to their signing with Hollywood Records in early 2019. Their debut extended play (EP), “Don’t Say You’re Ordinary,” was released on October 9, 2020, featuring production by Mark Needham and Simon Oscroft. This was followed by a second EP, “Til the End of Time,” on July 9, 2021. The band made notable appearances at festivals such as Lollapalooza in August 2021.
Almost Monday continued releasing singles, including “Live Forever” (2021), “Sunburn” (2022), and “Sun Keeps on Shining” (2022). They toured extensively, supporting acts like Joywave and The Driver Era in 2022. Their debut studio album, “Dive,” was released on September 25, 2024, through Hollywood Records, with a deluxe version following on January 21, 2025. The album included singles that achieved chart success, such as “Can’t Slow Down,” which reached number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart in February 2025. They also opened for AJR’s tour in 2024 and embarked on their own international “The Dive Tour” in late 2024 and 2025.
