Aly & AJ, the pop rock duo comprised of sisters Alyson Michalka and Amanda Joy Michalka, have actively engaged in music creation and social advocacy over nearly two decades. After signing with Hollywood Records in 2004, pop rock duo Aly & AJ, comprised of sisters Alyson Michalka and Amanda Joy Michalka, released their debut album, ‘Into the Rush,’ in 2005. The album achieved RIAA Gold certification in 2006 and featured singles ‘Rush’ and ‘Chemicals React.’ They followed this with their holiday album ‘Acoustic Hearts of Winter’ in 2006, and opened for The Cheetah Girls on their 2005 Christmas tour. Their momentum continued with the 2007 release of ‘Insomniatic.’ This album included the Platinum-certified single ‘Potential Breakup Song,’ a track that climbed to the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007.
The duo showcased their dynamic live presence with performances at major festivals, including Lollapalooza in 2021 and Austin City Limits in 2022. Their recent studio album, ‘With Love From,’ was released in 2023, alongside the holiday-themed EP ‘Lonesome Dove.’ Beyond their musical catalog, Aly & AJ have leveraged their platform for significant social advocacy, championing LGBTQ+ rights, voter registration, Black Lives Matter, and Planned Parenthood. They partner with organizations such as HeadCount and The Trevor Project, and have openly addressed mental health awareness. Both Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka have cultivated acting careers, appearing together in the Disney Channel movie ‘Cow Belles’ (2006) and the independent film ‘Weepah Way for Now’ (2015).
Their brand presence extends to merchandise, including Aly & AJ Hello Kitty dolls and ‘The Aly & AJ Adventure’ game for Nintendo DS. Aly & AJ are set to release their next studio album, ‘Silver Deliverer,’ in 2025.
