Amit Trivedi was born on April 8, 1979, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His musical journey began during his college years at Rizvi College, Mumbai, where he was part of a fusion band named “OM.” The band released an album with Times Music. Following this, Trivedi dedicated himself to various musical endeavors, including composing advertising jingles, background scores for television serials, and music for theater productions. His early work also involved a two-year contract with Sony BMG, where he composed tracks for artists such as Abhijeet Sawant and Prashant Tamang.
A significant turning point in Trivedi’s career occurred when singer Shilpa Rao introduced him to director Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap was impressed by Trivedi’s music and decided to make his film “Dev.D” (2009) a musical. Although “Dev.D” was intended to be his first major release, production delays led to “Aamir” (2008) becoming his official Bollywood debut. “Dev.D” ultimately garnered him critical acclaim, fame, and a National Film Award for Best Music Direction, alongside two Filmfare Awards. He maintained creative collaborations with lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya on films like “Wake Up Sid” (2009) and “Udaan” (2010).
Throughout his career, Trivedi has emphasized creating music that aligns with a film’s narrative. He has consistently worked across various genres, including Jazz, Rock, and Western Classical, demonstrating proficiency with instruments such as Clarinet, Oboe, Mandolin, and Harmonica. He has composed for numerous successful films including “Queen” (2014) and “Dear Zindagi” (2016). In recent years, he has also focused on independent music through his label, AT Azaad, and composed for projects like the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup anthem and various MTV shows.
