About

Army of Lovers was formed in 1986 in Stockholm, Sweden, by Alexander Bard, Jean-Pierre Barda, and La Camilla. The group quickly established a unique public image characterized by flamboyant costumes, designed by Camilla Thulin, and provocative music videos, some of which faced bans from networks like MTV. This aesthetic, combined with their distinct dance-pop sound, contributed to their rapid rise in popularity across Europe. Their early discography included albums such as “Disco Extravaganza” (1990), re-issued as “Army of Lovers” in the US, and “Massive Luxury Overdose” (1991), which featured global hits like “Crucified” and “Obsession.” The single “Crucified” charted for 31 weeks on the Eurochart, peaking at number 14 in 1992, and remains one of their most recognized songs internationally. “Obsession” also achieved significant success, charting for 32 weeks and reaching number 29. The group’s total album sales reached seven million copies worldwide.

Throughout their career, the band experienced several lineup changes. La Camilla departed in 1992, being replaced by Michaela Dornonville de la Cour, and Dominika Peczynski joined in 1993, making the group a quartet for a period. Michaela Dornonville de la Cour left in 1996, and the core lineup solidified with Alexander Bard, Jean-Pierre Barda, and Dominika Peczynski. Over the years, they continued to release new material and compile their greatest hits, with significant albums including “The Gods of Earth and Heaven” (1993) and “Glory Glamour and Gold” (1994). Their album “Massive Luxury Overdose” sold 250,000 copies in Germany alone. The band also toured extensively, notably promoting same-sex marriage during a club tour across Germany in support of “Glory Glamour and Gold.”

After formally releasing their last new material in 2014, Army of Lovers reunited nine years later in 2023 at the request of Ukrainian superstar Olya Polyakova to record the duet “Love is Blue.” This collaboration led to the creation of a new album, “Sexodus,” which includes five new songs, two re-recorded classics, and three previously unreleased tracks from their 2010s reunion. The band plans to support the “Sexodus” album with a tour of Scandinavia and northern Europe in the summer of 2024, performing at festivals in cities such as Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Rodovre, Aalborh, and Esbjerg/Odense.
