The Bacon Brothers, comprising siblings Michael Bacon and Kevin Bacon, officially formed their musical duo in 1995. Prior to this, they had collaborated on music informally since childhood. Their career began with a one-night-only performance in Philadelphia at the Theatre of Living Arts, which led to a sustained music career. Their debut studio album, “Forosoco,” released in 1997, defined their genre as a fusion of folk, rock, soul, and country. Over the years, they have released eleven additional studio albums, embarked on numerous tours across North America and Europe, and made appearances on various radio, television, and web platforms, consistently demonstrating their diverse musical range.
Michael Bacon has established himself as an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist, and cellist, alongside his role as a full-time music professor at Lehman College. He has composed hundreds of scores for film and television, notably winning an Emmy Award for his original score for “The Kennedys” (1993) and three Academy Awards for documentary scores including “The Johnstown Flood” (1989), “A Time for Justice: American’s Civil Rights Movement” (1995), and “King Gimp” (1999). His compositions have also been featured in the PBS mini-series “The Jewish Americans” and he has been the composer for the television show “Finding Your Roots” since 2012. Additionally, several artists, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Carlene Carter, and Peter Yarrow, have recorded songs written by Michael. Kevin Bacon’s extensive acting career includes over 60 films and numerous television roles. His filmography features notable works such as “Animal House” (his debut at age 19), “Friday the 13th,” “Diner,” “JFK,” “Apollo 13,” and “Mystic River.” He earned a Golden Globe Award for his acting contributions. The brothers’ music has also been integrated into various film soundtracks, with their song “Chop Wood (Carry Water)” appearing in “The Woodsman” (2004) and “When You Decide You’ve Stayed Too Long” in “Red Betsy” (2003). Additionally, Kevin starred in and produced “Loverboy,” which Michael scored, further intertwining their professional paths.
