Baka Not Nice

Travis Savoury, known professionally as Baka Not Nice, was born on March 6, 1979, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His early career involved work as a security guard, notably for Drake. During this period, he also began contributing background vocals to Drake’s music. His vocal contributions can be heard on tracks such as “From Time” from Drake’s 2013 album “Nothing Was the Same,” and later on “Free Smoke” and “Gyalchester” from the 2017 album “More Life.” These early collaborations marked his initial foray into the professional music scene.

In June 2017, Baka Not Nice officially signed with Drake’s OVO Sound record label, an imprint of Warner Records. This signing was publicly announced and quickly followed by the release of his debut single, “Live Up to My Name.” The track, co-written by Drake, achieved commercial success, peaking at number 77 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart. He continued to build his discography with the release of his debut EP, “4Milli,” in 2018, which reached number 78 on the Canadian Albums Chart. This EP included the charting single “Live Up to My Name,” which later achieved Gold certification by the RIAA and Platinum by Music Canada.

Baka Not Nice further expanded his musical catalog with the “No Long Talk” EP in 2019, which featured collaborations such as “My Town,” with Giggs. He also released several non-album singles, including “Money in the Bank” and “I Am Who I Am” in 2017, and “UP” in 2019. His career continued with various guest appearances on Drake’s albums, including “Talk Up” from the 2018 album “Scorpion.” In 2019, he appeared in the short film “Remember Me, Toronto,” by Mustafa the Poet, showcasing his engagement beyond music.
