Betty Maxwell

Betty Maxwell was crowned Miss America 2016 on September 13, 2015, becoming the first Miss Georgia to win the national title since 1953 and receiving a $50,000 scholarship. During the competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey, she distinguished herself by winning the preliminary talent portion with her vocal performance and advocating for her platform, ‘Healthy Children, Strong America.’ Maxwell’s journey to the national title began with winning Miss Georgia 2015 on June 20, 2015, where her vocal performance of an aria from Puccini’s ‘Madama Butterfly’ secured her the crown, along with over $15,000 in scholarships and the use of a Kia Sorento for public appearances across the state.
