Nadine Coyle was born on June 15, 1985, in Derry, Northern Ireland. Her early musical talent was recognized by her parents at age two. In 2001, while attending Thornhill College, Coyle auditioned for the Irish version of the reality television talent show Popstars. Although she won a place in the band Six, it was later revealed she was underage, and she returned to her studies. Her participation in Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 led to her selection as a member of Girls Aloud. The girl group, formed through public vote, rapidly achieved widespread recognition, securing a Christmas number one single with “Sound of the Underground” in 2002.
Girls Aloud maintained a consistent presence in the UK music charts, accumulating twenty consecutive UK top ten singles, including four number ones, and two UK number one albums. The group released five consecutive platinum-selling studio albums and received five BRIT Award nominations, winning Best Single in 2009 for “The Promise.” Their musical style evolved, incorporating electropop and dance-pop elements. Girls Aloud became one of the most successful reality television acts, recognized by Guinness World Records multiple times for their achievements, including being the biggest-selling girl group of the 21st century in the UK with over 4.3 million singles and 4 million albums sold. After a successful career with Girls Aloud, the group went on hiatus in 2009 for solo projects.
Following the Girls Aloud hiatus, Coyle embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut solo studio album, “Insatiable,” in 2010 through her own record label, Black Pen Records, in partnership with Tesco. She later signed with Virgin EMI Records in 2017 and released the single “Go to Work,” followed by her debut extended play, “Nadine,” in 2018. In 2022, she performed a well-received cover of The Cranberries’ “Zombie.” More recently, in 2023, she released a cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” titled “If I Lay Here (Chasing Cars).” In May and June 2024, Coyle reunited with Girls Aloud for “The Girls Aloud Show” arena tour in memory of their late bandmate Sarah Harding.
