Britt Nicole

Brittany Nicole Waddell, known professionally as Britt Nicole, was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Her musical journey began at age three, singing in her grandfather’s church. She later became involved with the church’s program on Charlotte TV station WAXN, alongside her brother and cousin. A talented dancer, she studied ballet, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical. During her time at South Rowan High School, she was a member of the advanced choir, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York. She also participated in Duke University’s Brightleaf Music Workshop, demonstrating an early dedication to her craft.

Britt Nicole chose to pursue a full-time music career over a scholarship from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her independent debut album, “Follow the Call,” was released on January 10, 2003, under her birth name, Brittany Waddell. In 2004, she entered a management deal with Vertical Entertainment and a development deal with Word Records, releasing her debut EP, “Brittany Waddell,” the same year. Signing with Sparrow Records in 2006, her song “Indestructible” was included in the WOW Next 2007 compilation. She performed at various festivals, including Creation East/West, Spirit West Coast Monterey, ALIVE 11, and Celebrate Freedom. She also collaborated with Christian hip-hop group GRITS on their 2006 album, *Redemption*.

Her second album, *Say It*, was released on May 22, 2007, reaching No. 40 on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart. The lead single, “You,” peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs and was the 12th most-played song on Christian Hit Radio in 2007. She served as the opening act for the 2007 Winter Jam Tour. In 2009, she released *The Lost Get Found*, which topped the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and reached No. 62 on the Billboard 200. This album featured hit singles “The Lost Get Found” and “Walk on the Water.” In 2012, her album *Gold* achieved significant commercial and critical success, peaking at No. 1 on the Christian Albums chart, No. 41 on the Billboard 200, and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. The title track, “Gold,” debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britt Nicole signed with Capitol Records, releasing a mainstream version of *Gold* in 2013. Her fifth studio album, *Britt Nicole*, was released in 2016.
