About

Curtis Anthony Jackson II, known professionally as Capella Grey, was born on August 2, 1995, in New Rochelle, New York. Growing up in a Jamaican family, his musical journey began at a young age, learning various instruments through his church. He later developed his artistry in Mount Vernon, New York, after high school. Capella Grey primarily focused on writing and producing for other artists in the early stages of his career, contributing to tracks such as King Combs’ “Love You Better” featuring Chris Brown. In 2018, he established his own label, Allepac Records (now Allepac the Family), and signed the R&B girl group Rèign, for whom he wrote and produced their 2019 debut album.

Capella Grey began releasing his own music in 2020, starting with his debut mixtape, “Yea Nah I’m Out,” followed by “The QuaranTape Vibe 1.” However, his career significantly accelerated with the release of his single “Gyalis” on January 4, 2021. The song, which incorporated a sample from Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up,” quickly gained viral traction in New York and across social media platforms. Its widespread popularity led to numerous unofficial remixes by prominent artists and garnered it the title of “song of the summer” by various publications. “Gyalis” peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, solidifying Capella Grey’s status as a breakout artist. The official remix, featuring Popcaan and Chris Brown, was released in October 2021.

Following the success of “Gyalis,” Capella Grey signed with Capitol Records in 2021, a partnership he embraced due to their commitment to his artistic vision. He continued to release singles like “Talk Nice” (2021) and “Confujawn” with Nija (2022), and collaborated with notable artists like Ty Dolla Sign on “OT” (2022). His presence extended to major albums, appearing on Chris Brown’s “Breezy” and Joey Badass’s “2000.” In 2022, he also served as the opening act for Joey Badass’s 1999-2000 Tour. In 2023, he released the EP “HERE, damn.” and a holiday album, “Nah It’s Brick: A Holiday Vibe.” His debut album, “Vibe Responsibly, Vol. 1,” was released on June 21, 2024, under a new licensing deal with 10K Projects, featuring a range of collaborations.
