About

Tame Impala originated in Perth, Western Australia, in 2007 as the psychedelic music project of Kevin Parker. Parker is known for writing, recording, performing, and producing all of the project’s music in the studio. He gained attention by posting tracks on Myspace, leading to a worldwide deal with Modular Recordings in July 2008. The self-titled EP, “Tame Impala,” released in September 2008, quickly topped the Australian Independent Record Labels (AIR) Chart and reached number 10 on the ARIA Physical Singles Chart. Early singles like “Half Full Glass of Wine” received significant national radio airplay on Triple J. Tame Impala’s debut album, “Innerspeaker,” released in 2010, was certified gold in Australia and critically acclaimed, earning a “Best New Music” distinction from Pitchfork.

Parker’s 2012 follow-up album, “Lonerism,” also received widespread acclaim and platinum status in Australia, securing a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. This album also won the J Award for Australian Album of the Year, making Tame Impala the first band to win the award more than once. “Lonerism” was recognized as Album of the Year by Rolling Stone and NME. The third album, “Currents,” released in 2015, continued this success, winning ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Parker received the APRA Award for Song of the Year 2016 for “Let It Happen,” a track from “Currents.” The record became the best-selling in Tame Impala’s discography, with 1.3 million copies sold worldwide. In 2018, Parker worked with Travis Scott and Kanye West on the song “Skeletons” from Scott’s album “Astroworld.”

The fourth studio album, “The Slow Rush,” released in 2020, garnered further praise and earned Tame Impala five awards at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Group. “The Less I Know the Better” from “Currents” was voted number one in Triple J’s Hottest 100 of the Decade. Tame Impala continued to grow with collaborations, including “Turn Up the Sunshine” with Diana Ross in 2022 for the film “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” “New Gold” with Gorillaz in 2022, “Wings of Time” for “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” in 2023, and “No More Lies” with Thundercat in 2023. Recent projects include “Journey to the Real World” for the “Barbie” film soundtrack in 2023, and collaborations with Justice on “One Night/All Night” and “Neverender” in 2024. In May 2024, Sony Music Publishing acquired Parker’s entire catalog, covering past and future works. The fifth album, “Deadbeat,” was released in 2025.
